Following a heart attack, heart surgery or a coronary intervention such as stenting or angioplasty, your physician may recommend Cardiac Rehabilitation.
Comprehensive rehabilitation is provided by New Heart, Center for Wellness, Fitness and Cardiac Rehabilitation, conveniently located near the New Mexico Heart Institute, at 601 Lomas Blvd.
Rehabilitation is a closely supervised program that can help you recover more quickly, may help prevent future cardiac problems and will make you feel better. You, as well as your family members, will meet with a physician and the staff of the rehabilitation center for 12 weeks to monitor your progress. As your strength returns, your physician will gradually increase the amount of exercise you do.
As part of the program you will also be able to:
- Meet with a registered dietician
- Participate in stress-reduction classes
- Join a support group
- Participate in wellness activites such as:
- Gym membership
- Tai Chi
- Smoking Cessation Program
Cardiac rehabilitation can improve the functioning of your heart, the quality of your life, reduce your risk factors and give you a sense of well-being and optimism. For more information, please click here to visit New Heart Center.
